Our Covid Baby Shower

Hello Friends! I know it sucks… a baby shower is supposed to be an exciting time to celebrate your baby & worry free. With everything going on in the world it makes it a bit harder to do that. Here is how we managed to have a baby shower that was enjoyable for us and our guests!

Perks of a drive-by baby shower

  • Its not a whole day event for your guests
  • No silly games
  • Takes some pressure off the hosts to entertain all day long
  • You get to enjoy time with each individual guest. Even if its for a short period as they drive through.
  • You don’t have to open all your gifts in front of everyone & they don’t have to pretend to care (haha)Alright lets get into what we did & how we made it work!

With everything happening in the world we decided a “drive-by” baby shower was the safest option for our growing family. Although we didn’t love the idea of a drive-by baby shower at first, we came around to it when we finalized this idea.

Our registry: was created online at myregistry.com where you can select items from several websites rather than doing it all in one spot. This was what I did for my bridal shower as well and it worked so well especially during covid times where you can’t always go into the store to create your registry.

Our Vision: We were fortunate enough to have our baby shower in the summer where we could be outside (although it did try to rain on our “parade” all went well). I wanted a rustic, light pink/tan vibe with a DIY feel & that is exactly what we created with our stations. We were lucky to have a crescent at our disposal & neighbours who were amazing enough to let us use their space for the day.

We had 5 stations

  • Gift & raffle ticket drop off
  • Beverage station
  • Snacks
  • Sweets
  • Meet the parents & Favours

All stations had a tent for shade, chairs, decorations, hand sanitizers (of course), gloves, napkins, music and two awesome family per station.

As covid started & drive-by events began to come about we really hated the idea of driving by, giving a gift and heading out. You aren’t left with any good memories, photos or a full belly. We wanted to provide at least some of that with our stations.

Heres the break down of what we did…

Station one: Gift Drop Off & Raffle Tickets
We thought to have station #1 as the gift drop off because our guests would probably already have the gift ready to hand off & we didn’t want to overwhelm them with the snacks before clearing their space.

As for raffle tickets we actually included those in our invitations and asked them to have it fill out and ready to hand off when they arrived. This way the flow of traffic was constant and we also had extras for those forgetful guest (like myself).

Station two: Lemonade Stand
A refreshing beverage on the go was our first stop and perfect for summertime. You can definitely customize this to suit whatever season you are in. We thought it would be sooo cute to have a lemonade stand.. pink lemonade (mamas fave). This was a nice refreshing drink for everyone & we just had some plastic take out cups and paper straws to give them as they drove through. We had some drinks already prepared for the first group and then as we used them up we continued to fill the cups with our jugs & added ice before handing them off.

Station Three: Sugar & Spice
Again, we wanted something refreshing so we went with a fruit salsa and cinnamon pita chips! The recipe itself is easy to make however number of guests is definitely something to think about if you are going to be having this at your shower. The prep does take a while (cutting all the fruit) and has to be fresh since it is a fruit salsa. With that being said, it tastes sooo yummy and is also the perfect snack to bring with you to a party.

We grabbed some to-go containers from a local supply store (GT FRENCH) and placed the pita chips in ziplock baggies & into our decorative white bags from the dollar store.

Quick little recipe:

  • Fruit Salsa: Red & Green Apples, Pears for crunch, blueberries, strawberries & any other fruits you want to add. It super easy to customize to your desires. Add a bit of cinnamon & a very small amount of jam to make the dip that much sweeter.
  • Pita Chips: Coat plain white wraps in melted butter, dip them in a cinnamon & sugar mixture and place on baking sheet. Bake for 7 minutes (until crispy) and you have your cinnamon pita chips!

& a huge shout out to my mother-in-law for prepping & making this dish because it was a lot of work but everyone ended up loving it.

Station Four: Sweet Treats
We chose cake pops as our sweet treat! At most showers there is a dessert table or a cake so we thought cake pops would be a sweet snack for on the go. We used a  vanilla cake pop recipe, got the cake pop sticks from GT FRENCH and the pink coating chocolate was from bulk barn. These are also so easy to make and perfect for occasions.

Station Five:  Meet the Parents & Favours
This was the station myself & my husband hung out at (yes I made him come). We had smart pop popcorn in ziplock baggies placed in our white decorative bags with “Ready to Pop” written on the front as well as bath & body works hand sanitizers with onesies that said “thanks for showering us with love not germs”.

We wanted to be the final station to say thank you for coming & have a little chat while the other guests were grabbing their snacks throughout the crescent.

Invitations & Thank you cards & raffle tickets
For our invitations for wedding, engagement party & now this we always use Vistaprint. We find it super easy to customize and affordable to purchase a large quantity. We always have coupons and emails from them as well so invitations were quick, easy & affordable.

On our invitation we made note to please bring a baby book instead of a card on the invitation as well & used the quote
“One request that won’t be too hard, please bring a book instead of a card. By signing your book , we will remember and share your special gift, even when you’re not there.”

We also included the raffle ticket in there that requested their Name & Phone # so that we were able to reach them and let them know they had won a prize after the shower.

As for thank you cards post baby shower, we decided to order some off of amazon. These were blank inside and we wrote our own messages on the inside per family/person, so they were custom messages thanking them for coming to our baby shower. I highly recommend going this route as it is a lot more personal, especially considering it was a drive-by this gives you a chance to write a nice message and show your appreciation for the gift. Decorations
Amazon is so easy for decorations ! I linked some items that I really enjoyed.

Oh Baby Balloons & Welcome Baby Banner
Baby Boxes

For the final station (meet the parents) we did have a balloon arch from Party City since our balloon arch off amazon was (HORRIBLE) all the balloons kept popping and really ate up a lot of our time the day before (I do not recommend a balloon arch off amazon).

The brown paper we got at a local store & just used pink paint to create signs for each station. This was for our guests to know what they were stopping there for & what was coming their way.

The white paper bags we used for popcorn & the pita chips were from the dollar store. We used the cricut and used that to write our messages on the bag.

We also used the cricut to cut the onesies out for our hand sanitizers & print the message on there as well.

To add a bit more we got baby’s breath and added them to the mason jars to give it a cute but rustic feel. This is definitely not necessary but a cute look to add to the tables.

Prizes: We wanted to offer our guests a few prizes to win as a thank you for coming to our mini driveby shower.

The prizes included:
A craft beer prize – mugs & a variety of craft beers
Wine Tray – Wine, custom tray and glasses from @kellysKraftss (LINK)
2 bath & body works kits (body spray, body wash and lotion)
2 bath & body home kits (candle & hand soap)

Thats pretty much the run-down on our drive-by baby shower ! To see a bit more behind the scenes and a vlog from the day check out my baby shower video & follow along our journey on instagram @chelllseaj.
